We are stardust ~ We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
– Joni Mitchell
As we move deeper into an era defined by rapid technological advancement and the rise of AI, a vital question emerges for those of us in the healing arts: What is the role of the human spirit when machines can mimic our intellect?
I believe the answer lies in our “Human Being-ness”—that intricate, messy, and beautiful connection between our somatic forms, our nervous systems, minds, and our spirit. While technology can offer data, it cannot replace our wholeness, nor can it offer the deep presence that a Yoga Therapist provides through a therapeutic relationship. To ascend into our full potential in this new age, we must deepen our commitment to our capacity for intentionality and our search for meaning. In this landscape, technology is not our replacement, but our partner; we use its analytical insights to better understand metrics around our physical health and longevity, freeing us to focus our energy on the spiritual and interpersonal dimensions.
But true healing requires a journey of remembering that as humans we are not separate from the world around us, but an intricate part of it. When we step away from all the noises and glows and place our feet in the earth, we engage in a form of remembering that regulates our energy and focus in ways an algorithm never could. When we step on our mats or sit on our cushions to explore our inner world, we have the same opportunity for that remembering.
One of the most profound ways to elevate our humanness is to stop fighting against the current and start flowing with the natural cycles of life. This is the heart of cyclical living—recognizing that we, like the moon, have phases of expansion and contraction.
When we align our lives with lunar and seasonal rhythms, we move away from the burnout loop and toward a model of sustainable well-being. It is an act of reclaiming our agency and trust in our own bodies. This is particularly needed in these dynamic and challenging times.
In a world that is becoming increasingly artificial, let us choose to become more deeply, vibrantly, and intentionally human.
In peace,
