The Rising Tide: Witnessing Growth in the Field of Yoga Therapy by Michele Lawrence

I’ve been practicing Yoga Therapy since 2009. While there are many who have been doing this for much longer than me, being in the field for the past 15 years has offered me a view into the undeniable growth taking place.  And, I’m forever grateful to all those who have been at it much longer than me, the teachers and pioneers who have paved the way for all of us.

Some of the main categories of growth I’ve noticed have been in the following areas:

1. Integration into Healthcare Systems: One of the key reasons behind the growth of Yoga Therapy is its integration into mainstream healthcare systems. Many medical professionals and institutions have recognized the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of Yoga Therapy and have embraced it as a complementary approach to traditional treatments. Increasingly, our own graduates are working in hospital and medical settings. This integration has not only increased awareness but has also opened doors for research, funding, and collaboration, propelling the field forward.

2. Scientific Validation: The growth of Yoga Therapy can also be attributed to the mounting scientific evidence supporting its efficacy. Numerous studies have highlighted the positive impacts of yoga on various health conditions, including stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and even cardiovascular health. As research continues to validate the benefits of Yoga Therapy, more individuals and healthcare providers are embracing it as a legitimate and evidence-based practice.

3. Increased Accessibility: Accessibility has played a crucial role in the growth of Yoga Therapy. With the adoption of technology, Zoom, online platforms, and mobile applications, Yoga Therapy has become more accessible to a wider audience. People can now access virtual sessions, instructional videos, and resources from the comfort of their own homes. This has broken down barriers, allowing individuals from all walks of life to experience the transformative power of Yoga Therapy.

4. Holistic Approach to Well-being: In a world where individuals are seeking holistic approaches to well-being, Yoga Therapy has emerged as a beacon of hope. Unlike conventional treatments that often focus solely on symptoms, Yoga Therapy takes a comprehensive approach, addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and Spiritual aspects of healing. The recognition of the interconnectedness of these aspects has resonated with individuals seeking a more balanced and integrated approach to their well-being, fueling the growth of Yoga Therapy.

The growth of Yoga Therapy is a testament to its profound impact on individuals’ lives and the healthcare industry as a whole. Through integration, scientific validation, increased accessibility, and its holistic approach, Yoga Therapy has gained traction and recognition. As more people experience the transformative benefits, the field can continue to expand, offering hope and healing to individuals seeking a path to wellness.
